Now introducing our Chief Operations Officer, John Solonynko!
As a 2nd generation sprinkler professional, John’s 25-year tenure in the fire and life safety industry has taken him from Canada all the way down to Georgia and from one sunny coast in Florida to another in Southern California. Aside from working the ice cream stand during Calgary Flames games at the Saddledome as a young boy, fire protection has been a life-long career and passion for him.
As a young man, he tried to avoid going to university right out of high school and “conveniently” missed the application deadlines. But not to worry, his mother secretly applied for him on his behalf and he earned his BA in Business Management. What a great mom!
Randy and John were board members together for the FSCA of Southern California and VFS needed a leader to execute a national growth strategy for the business. Randy’s passion for this vision coupled with a company culture of extreme customer service and technical excellence is what attracted John to join the team.
Day in and day out John leads our entire team to success through his steadfast involvement and commitment to his customers and employees all over the country. He is fearless in his execution, assiduous in his delivery, and like most members of the VFS team, humorous in his conveyance. John’s favorite quote just happens to be from his favorite hockey player, Wayne Gretzky – “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” and this mindset is woven into every aspect of his business. He believes that every one of his team members has their own individual strengths that come together to create the collective success of the company.
A couple of fun facts you probably did not know about John; he recently took up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and surfing at the age of 46! And although he might not recover as quickly as he once did, his perspective has sharpened, and he has developed an appreciation for new challenges!
If he could look back on his life at the age of 80, he would tell himself to slow down, appreciate the little things in life, and spend more time pursuing happiness as the key metric of success!
Live music, sports, and traveling are all essential elements in his pursuit of happiness. He has seen Pearl Jam live 9 times in 3 different countries and he wants to continue traveling, exploring, and experiencing the world. His love for fire protection is only rivaled by his rock band T-shirt collection, vast historical knowledge, and love of the game. Thanks, John!
